Proto Tamansari Workshop

Together with a consortium of partners lead by Krill Office for Resilient Cities and Architecture, this workshop focused on two pilot locations near Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The purpose was to develop new tools for improving the resilience of desakotas in the future. ‘Desakota’ is a settlement type that has the potential to become one of the most sustainable metropolitan environments known. Desakotas are ecologically, economically and socially much more resilient than the peri-urban and suburban settlements - for example, providing its own food and sustaining non-agricultural economic activities – yet they are under the constant threat of uncontrolled urbanization, insufficient infrastructure and natural disasters.
